The cases of marrow injury from firearms already surpass those caused by automobile accidents. Violence in the so-called satellite cities on the outskirts of Brasília, capital of Brazil, is the origin of many of the patients who arrive daily at a horizontal construction of imposing architecture on the banks of Lake Paranoá. They come in search of cutting-edge Neurorehabilitation in Spinal Cord Injury, Neurological and Orthopedic Rehabilitation at the International Center for Neuroscience and Rehabilitation SARAH, a world reference in this field of medicine.
In honor of President Juscelino Kubitschek's wife, the huge structure is nothing like an ordinary hospital and maybe that is the key to the success of one of the few examples of public facilities that have worked well in the country. In there, older people with bone problems due to old age share cutting-edge laboratories with young people on crutches and wheelchairs, victims of violence. Rich or poor, here they are just ordinary people in search for rehabilitation.
